Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

Lost track of how many times I’ve watched this now and it never loses it’s charm, so I thought a rewatch for the Junesploitation Kung Fu! theme would be perfect!

Completely forgot about how much exposition Kim Cattrall gave in the first third of the film, couldn’t stop laughing through it all.

The introduction to Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express was such fun, really setting out what kind of huy Jack sees himself as. During this introduction we were also treated to a typical John Carpenter soundtrack which really added so much to the whole film.

I was born ready!

This was such an 80s film and I remember loving it when I first saw it as it’s so silly, over acting and huge bravura all round.

One of the things I liked about it and thought was different still stands out today in that all the Chinese characters were played by Chinese actors with only the three non-Chinese characters.

This was Kurt  Russell’s time, so many great films in the 80s, with this sitting in the middle of them all, he just seems to be having fun through the whole thing.

And if you take out Jack’s buffoonery there are some great set piece fights with some great wire work throughout, making it a great kung fu fight with a nice bit of magic peppered throughout.

Everybody relax, I’m here.

This is such a great film I can always see myself watching it again and again in the future as a great comfort watch.

Oh, and the lipstick!
